Do you know that you can literally eat your way to beautiful skin?
The old adage that we are what we eat is not an old wives tail, but an actual scientific reality. The nutrients we consume become the building blocks of our bodies on a cellular level and impact hugely on our health, vitality and both physical and mental well-being.
This means we have an amazing opportunity to enhance our enjoyment of our embodied existence by choosing to eat living foods which will make us look and feel our best.
So do yourself a favour and expand your healthy food repertoire. It doesn’t need to be boring!
Introducing Bestow Beauty
To help you on your way, we are thrilled to feature some skin-food recipes from our friends Janine Tait and Sheryl Nicholson at Bestow.
Bestow is a philosophy of skincare, made up of exquisite rituals and functional foods lovingly created to support your inner health and outer beauty.
We are proud to be longtime stockists of Bestow skin-food products and Food Journals here at Jamele.
The Amazing Brazil Nut
The Brazil ‘nut’ is actually a seed, truth be told, but semantics aside, all you really need to know is that it is a super food for your skin.
Just two brazil nuts a day will provide you with enough selenium to help protect you from cancer and heart disease and to improve the condition of your skin, nails and hair.
While you could be forgiven for thinking that by having more than two a day you’ll simply multiply the benefits, this is a case where less really is more. High selenium levels can be toxic, so just stick to the two per day. I chop up them up and throw into my muesli each morning – love them!
Lovely Lemons
Enjoy half a lemon in warm water first thing in the morning. It sets you up for the day, gives a good dose of Vitamin C, and introduces a good level of acid into your tummy which will aids digestion. It’s also wonderful boost of hydration to counter that first coffee. Life is all about balance after all!

The Skin Benefits of Almond Milk
Nourishing Notes from Janine Tait
Almond milk is a great alternative to cows milk and it is delicious, especially when made fresh. Almond milk contains loads of vitamin E, the most important lipid-soluble, membrane bound antioxidant in our bodies. Vitamin E has been shown to improve the barrier function of our skin making it stronger and more resilient.
