As we round the corner towards Christmas, I’d like to take a moment to share some personal updates and wish you all a wonderful festive season.
Doing it Differently
If I’m honest, Christmas tends to be a very busy and stressful time of the year for me with lots of extra functions. I always seem to have a lengthy list of tasks to be completed before the clinic closes and the family all arrive. I end up putting on a great deal of pressure on myself to get it all done. Am I the only one who does this? I suspect not!
This year I’m trying something different. I’m trying very hard to remain on an even keel and only do what is really necessary.
I want to really enjoy the process of family and friends gathering together. I need to lower my expectations of myself and not try and squeeze so much in so that I can be more present with the people I love. I know how hard-working our clients are, and where you can, I encourage you all to do the same. Find little ways to take the pressure off so you have some energy left over for connection. The most important aspect of this time of the year is precious time with those special people in our lives.
Last Christmas, I announced that I had become a nana for the first time with arrival of my son, Jonathan’s, little boy, Nathan. My latest exciting news is that after living in Australia for nine years, Jonathan, his wife Lisa and Nathan have moved home to New Zealand! Jonathan has secured a great position as CFO in Northland polytech, so they have moved to Whangarei. Of course I was hoping that they might come to the Bay of Plenty, but at the end of the day you go where the work is. I look forward to seeing them more often and watching Nathan grow. Lots of driving to Whangarei in our future I guess!
A few months ago, we had a lovely weekend in Auckland with all the family to celebrate Nathan’s 1st birthday. It is truly amazing watching the changes and development of this wee boy. He is quite serious and likes to quietly assess his environment and take everything in. He is saying a few words and has a small pointy finger that he points at everything – indicating that this is what he would like to look at now – just delightful! I’m so looking forward to spending Christmas with them this year.
On behalf of my team, I would like to wish you and yours a refreshing, pleasure-filled Christmas and festive season filled with lots of special moments and ‘presence’. Thank you for sharing your lives and your skincare journeys with us. It’s a privilege to support your wellbeing and to care for your skin.
