We can’t turn back time, but we can definitely slow it down!
Jamele has passed from mother (Pat Foster) to daughter (Shelley Foster) and our philosophy encompasses the ageless truths of skin care wisdom combined with the latest technological and scientific developments in skin care.
In this blog post, mother and daughter combine forces to share some anti-aging wisdom!
Timeless Truths with Pat Foster
Vitamin A is for Anti-Aging
Did you know that Vitamin A is the most important factor in anti-aging treatments? Vitamin A is an anti-oxidant which actually prevents and slows down the formation of fine lines, pigmentation, uneven skin tone – the list is endless. It is the active ingredient in so many anti-aging products, and for good reason.
Taking Vitamin A nutritionally or through a supplement is excellent, but it essential that you also apply Vitamin A topically. Typically, the way we apply Vitamin A topically is through your moisturiser – which is why choosing the right moisturiser for your particular skin type is important.
My daughter Shelley has prepared a 3 minute clip to share more information about the types of Vitamin A and explain how the different doses of Vitamin A are managed within three of our skincare ranges – Environ, Dermaviduals and Janesce. CLICK HERE to watch it.
Don’t Be Afraid of Fat
In my day we weren’t afraid of healthy fats. That was a fad which seemed to come in the 90’s and which did many women a disservice. Many women began avoiding fats altogether for fear of putting on weight.
However, you will find that great quality fats like olive oil, nuts, organic butter, tahini or coconut oil will actually slow down the release of glucose into your blood stream, requiring less insulin, and help you to stay feeling full for longer.
Fat is a friend to your skin too. We have always known at Jamele that those people who do have healthy fats in their diet always have more youthful and healthier skin, supple and well hydrated.
So go ahead and enjoy good fats in moderation.
Another fabulous way to add some good fats into your diet is through our friend Janine Tait’s Bestow Beauty Oil, which we provide to many of our Jamele clients. Aptly described as an ‘edible cosmetic’, Bestow Beauty Oil contains a unique blend of organic, unrefined, extra virgin seed oils cold-pressed from flax and golden flax.
It is available, along with the rest of the fabulous Bestow Beauty range here in the Jamele clinic.
Skin Nutrition ~ Eating for Life
I have always believed in a holistic approach to healthy living and beautiful skin. Shelley says that I always had something bubbling and brewing away in the fridge and I suppose I did! When I was 48 I went Adelaide for two years to study beauty therapy under renowned naturopath Jan Smith, who went on to found Janesce on the belief that nature provides all that we need to enjoy good health and radiant skin. Jan’s clean living philosophies have been part of my life now for many years.
I am please to see a renaissance in ‘slow living’ these days with more and more people growing fruit and vegetables in their own backyard and taking the time to enjoy life-giving nutrition through growing and eating whole foods.
Our friend Janine Tait of Bestow has developed a wonderful range of Bestow Beauty recipes which help make nutritious food preparation both delicious and healthy. Check out our Skinfood Nutrition blog-post for some wonderful recipes to inspire you.
Modern Advances with Shelley Foster
The science of skincare has developed hugely in the last 20 years so I also feel very fortunate to have been able to build on Mum’s legacy by combining a ‘whole-person’ approach with the latest advances in skincare products and technologies.
Appearance Medicine offers a whole world of advanced technologies for anti-aging treatments. But not everyone is fan of such drastic or invasive measures.
I have seen a big advance in non-surgical clinic based technologies in recent years which clients are getting great results from.
Collagen Induction Therapy is one of these anti-aging treatments which we use here at Jamele.
Collagen Induction Therapy
There is a home-based aspect to this therapy called ‘Dermal Rolling’ which, as the name suggests, involves stimulating the skin with specially designed hand-held rollers that have tiny skin probes. By rolling the skin before putting on your serum or moisturiser, your skin becomes much more receptive. In fact, rolling increases the penetration of active ingredients in your skincare product from 7% to 70%.
To supplement home use we also offer a more intensive clinical facial treatment using the Derma CIT Pen. This is an advanced micro-needling device, which rapidly injects tiny probes into the skin. While this may sound painful, it is actually quite comfortable and we can use a local anesthetic on sensitive parts of the face. The micro-needles create tiny micro-injuries to the skin, stimulating the production of wound collagen and growth hormones, which rejuvenates and plumps up your skin. It is very effective for lifting sagging skin and minimizing fine lines and wrinkles.

Environ Facial Treatments
As well as being pampering, Environ facials treatments are high-tech and hardworking. They are developed by plastic surgeon, Dr. Des Fernandes, whose highest priority is using advances in skincare science and technology to achieve serious results. The unique Environ DF machine is used to perform sonophoresis and iontophoresis on the skin, which increase the penetration of active ingredients into your skin by 4000% and 400% respectively. The powerful products stimulate the growth of healthy skin cells, improve pigmentation, and increase collagen/elastin production. These facials are suitable for all skin types and are customised for your needs. CLICK HERE to see the range of Environ Facial Treatments.
When we look to the future we know that we will continue to follow scientific developments and introduce advanced products and treatments that offer real value, but we will never lose sight of the holistic values at our foundation. Inner health is the real key to beautiful skin, and it always will be.
